Specialist Training by MJ Services

We offer a range of training and specialist services relating to surface preparation and coating equipment.

ICATS stands for the “Industrial Coatings Applicator Training Scheme”. It is a comprehensive structured training scheme for the registration, training and certification of industrial surface preparation and coating operatives.

Correx Ltd originally set up the ICATS scheme, in conjunction with the Highways Agency and Network Rail, as a response to the increased demands of an industry looking to raise standards of workmanship and safety.

We are able to offer training (in-house or on-site) of the highest standard. With 25 years in the corrosion industry, your trainer is qualified and experienced.

The facilities offered for training are exceptional. From classroom training to hands-on operation in the blast chamber and spray booth,we have the latest equipment available for all trainees to experience.

Improving standards of safety and workmanship should be the objective of all companies and the Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme (ICATS) truly delivers. Over the past 20 years advances in industrial paints and the associated preparation standards make the application of systems a skilled operation. Using unskilled, unqualified operatives drastically increases the risk of costly coating failures.

The scheme has a mandatory basic unit "Industrial Coatings Applicator" consisting of 6 modules:

Health and Safety
Surface Preparation

Site Access
Quality Control

Plant and Equipment
Paint Types & Application

ICATS is mandated by both the Highways Agency and Network Rail and is the minimum requirement for any operative to carry out industrial coating application at any of their sites. Other organisations are following suit, in order to ensure the highest possible standards of workmanship and health and safety.

Until now, the industrial coatings industry has never had a structured training scheme for operatives to eliminate this risk. Having a trained and qualified workforce will allow you to demonstrate to current and potential customers your capability to tackle most industrial painting projects in an efficient and professional way, giving them confidence that they have selected the right company for the job. The key focus of the scheme is on safe working practices, surface preparation and application techniques working to recognised industry standards.
